Why Cabo Pulmo?

National Marine Park

The waters off Cabo Pulmo were designated as protected in 1995, after over-fishing had severely depleted fish populations. It boasts of the only hard-coral reef in North America. Coral reefs are known as incubators for fish and marine mammals. Today, it is one of the greatest success stories of marine reserves, with populations of fish and marine life rebounding in the 27 square acres of the protected area. These protected waters replenish fish throughout the Sea of Cortez. Though fishing is not allowed, scuba diving and snorkeling are world-renowned.
